An up-and-coming candidate who inspires us

The midterm elections are just around the corner.

We wrote to you recently to explain why now is the time to tune in. The consequences are enormous, with important issues like health care, climate, and democracy on the line.

With the election top of mind, we wanted to take a moment to highlight another up-and-coming candidate on the ballot who inspires us. Through my work helping build Arena, I’ve gotten to know lots of up-and-coming political leaders – and Wes Moore is among the best.

Wes Moore is running to be the next Governor of Maryland. He is a combat veteran, bestselling author, small business owner, Rhodes Scholar, and former CEO of the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the nation’s largest anti-poverty organizations. If elected, Wes will flip the office back to the Democrats and become only the third Black governor elected in our nation’s history.

After Wes Moore decisively won the Democratic primary in June, the Cook Political Report reclassified the race from “Lean Democrat” to “Solid Democrat”. This is because Wes is set to face Dan Cox, a freshman state lawmaker backed by Donald Trump who claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

Wes and running mate Aruna Miller are committed to bringing work, wages, and wealth to Maryland and addressing the issues that matter most to Marylanders, like more affordable and accessible health care, strong public education for every child, a 21st century transportation system, action on climate, gun violence prevention, protecting the right to choose, and defending our democracy and voting rights.

While some are predicting a win for Wes, the political climate is volatile, and his victory is far from certain. He could use your help.

We’re proud to back the historic Moore campaign. And we’re optimistic about the fresh perspective Wes and Aruna will bring to public leadership in Maryland. We hope you'll join us in supporting them.

Are there candidates out there who inspire you? Or are you interested in learning about ways you can tune in and take action? Join us at our next community meetup for plenty of ideas.
